Krakow: Schindler's Factory Guided Tour
In the building of Oskar Schindler’s former Enamel Factory, visit the permanent exhibition entitled “Krakow – the period of occupation 1939–1945,” which invites you to delve into the moving stories of the people of Krakow during World War II.
Oskar Schindler's Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik is a cult place in Krakow, visited by tourists from all over the world. Steven Spielberg presented the fate of the factory owner in his 1993 film "Schindler's List". Although it is not a biographical museum, the figure of Schindler, a Righteous Among the Nations who saved about a thousand people, as well as the stories of the Krakow Jews he saved, are present during the tour of the exhibition.
The multimedia exhibition presents Krakow and the everyday life of its inhabitants - Poles, Jews and Germans - ordinary people during the war. The exhibition consists of photographs, documentaries and accounts of witnesses to history.
Here you can see Oskar Schindler's preserved office and the symbolic "ark of survivors" located in it, made of thousands of pots similar to those produced by factory workers during the war. You will also find everyday objects - photos, newspapers, documents - reminding you of the realities of occupied Krakow, reconstructions of urban spaces and artistic installations. Key moments in the city's history are marked with "memory machines" - stamps in which visitors can imprint a seal related to a given event.
This is one of those museums in Krakow that you absolutely must visit.
